Glenwood Hoskin Jr. went to the movies 1,207 times in one year. That is more than three films every single day, for 12 months, and it has earned the 60-year-old retiree from Pennsylvania a Guinness World Records title.

Guinness announced the record on 30 October 2026. Hoskin, a retired tax officer, watched the films at his local Regal cinema in York Haven, Pennsylvania, between April 2024 and April 2025, completing the attempt on 31 March 2025. He averaged 3.3 movies a day, often spending from early morning until midnight at the cinema.

Beating the old record by 430 films

The previous record belonged to another American, Zachariah Swope, who saw 777 movies in a year. Hoskin beat it by 430 films, a margin so large that Guinness described him as having “absolutely smashed” the old mark.

He told Guinness that he would plan ahead each day by looking at the listings and trying to see as many movies as possible, from early morning until midnight. He kept the whole thing affordable with a Regal Unlimited subscription that costs around $28 a month. Among the films he enjoyed were The Wild Robot, which he found far better than anticipated, and Deadpool and Wolverine.

Why he did it

Hoskin said he was inspired after seeing the previous record set, and knew he had the desire and the time to break it. He also considered the record for most cinema productions attended of the same film, held by Ramiro Alanis, who saw Spider-Man: No Way Home 292 times, but said he could not beat those numbers because most films at his cinema quickly moved on to streaming services.

What he liked most, he told Guinness, was not the record itself but getting to know the cinema workers and experiencing the movies with other people. After a year of three films a day, he has earned a rest — though after 1,207 screenings, the habit of checking the listings every morning may be hard to break.
