Renault has launched the Duster strong hybrid E-Tech 160 in India, with prices starting at Rs 16.99 lakh ex-showroom and an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29 km per litre, according to DriveSpark and RushLane.
The hybrid pairs a 1.8-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery, producing a combined 160 PS, and it becomes the fourth strong-hybrid option in the midsize SUV segment.
Three Variants and Long Warranties
The Duster Hybrid is offered in three trims: Evolution at Rs 16.99 lakh, Techno at Rs 18.99 lakh and Emotion at Rs 19.49 lakh, all ex-showroom.
Renault claims the hybrid can do 80% of city driving in EV mode, with a total range of up to 1,400 km from its 50-litre fuel tank, and says it can reduce petrol costs by up to 40% compared with other petrol cars in the segment.
The brand is offering a 7-year warranty on the car and an 8-year or 1,60,000 km warranty for the battery, an industry-first package that will matter to buyers planning long ownership.
Features and Rivals to Compare
The hybrid looks largely the same as the turbo-petrol Duster, with an illuminated Duster emblem on the grille, a new brown-black interior theme, and features including a 10.1-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof on higher trims, and ventilated front seats.
Safety kit on the entry-level Evolution includes 38 safety features as standard, including 6 airbags, hill-start assist, cruise control with a speed limiter, rear parking sensors and a rearview camera, according to DriveSpark.
The Duster Hybrid takes on the strong-hybrid versions of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, alongside the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and other midsize SUVs.
Bookings opened on October 9 for Rs 21,000 through Renault India’s website and authorised dealerships, and buyers should confirm on-road prices and delivery times before committing.
Choosing between hybrid, petrol and diesel comes down to how you drive. Hybrids shine in stop-start city traffic, where electric running cuts fuel use, while steady motorway drivers may see less benefit. Working out your annual mileage, the share of city driving, and local fuel prices gives a realistic saving figure, far better than relying on brochure claims. Warranty cover, especially for the battery, is equally important for buyers planning to keep the car for many years.
