Used electric vehicle values in the UK have risen by more than 14% between the first and third quarters of 2026, according to new data from Autorola reported by Fleet News.
EVs were the only powertrain to buck the wider trend, rising by 14.1%, or £2,197, from £15,486 in the first quarter to £17,683 in the third quarter, at an average age of 37 months and 23,259 miles.
Demand Has Risen for a Third Straight Quarter
Neil Frost, managing director of Autorola UK, said it is positive to see EV demand rise for a third successive quarter, with prices continuing to rise.
High petrol and diesel fuel prices have certainly helped boost EV demand, he said, but there is also more confidence in the sector now that the number of electric cars on UK roads continues to increase.
Separate data from Motorway, reported by Regit, shows used EV sales have more than doubled in a year and prices are climbing, with dealers competing harder for electric cars than for the average used car.
Should Owners Sell Now?
If you have been thinking of selling an EV, the timing looks good, according to Regit, since values are up and dealers are competing for stock.
The catch is that if you are replacing it with another EV, you will be buying in the same rising market, so the gain on your current car may be partly eaten up by what you pay for the next one.
Selling makes most sense if you are switching to something else entirely, or if your EV is nearing the end of its battery warranty and you would rather hand that question to the next owner.
Buyers, meanwhile, should still check battery health before handing over money, since the battery is the most expensive single component, and a clean report is worth more than a low sticker price.
Battery health is the key check for any used electric car. Ask for a battery health report, check how much warranty remains on the battery, and find out whether the car supports the charging speeds you need. A car with a healthy battery and a clean service history is usually a better buy than a cheaper example with questions over its most expensive component. Home charging access also matters, since it determines how convenient and cheap daily running will be.
