India can seal the five-match T20I series against New Zealand on Tuesday when the sides meet in the third T20I at Wellington, with the visitors leading 2-0 after two four-wicket wins in Christchurch.

India won the toss in Wellington and captain Shreyas Iyer chose to bowl first, according to reports from the toss, keeping an unchanged side. New Zealand made three changes, bringing in Matthew Fisher, Kyle Jamieson and Adam Milne for Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson and Nathan Smith.

The match is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. IST at Wellington’s stadium, and India will look to finish the series with two games to spare. New Zealand, the 2026 T20 World Cup runners-up, must win to keep the series alive.

Tilak Varma leads India’s chase

India’s second win was built on Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 51 from 26 balls, according to match reports, after New Zealand had restricted India to 70 for five and later 112 for six. Varma’s composure under pressure earned him Player of the Match honours and turned a difficult chase into a victory.

In the first T20I, Naman Dhir’s blistering 41 from 15 balls helped India to another four-wicket win. India’s batting depth has been the difference so far, even when the top order has struggled.

New Zealand must fix bowling discipline

New Zealand’s biggest concern has been bowling discipline, according to reports from the series. The Black Caps conceded 17 extras in the first match, including 16 wides and a no-ball, and 10 extras in the second game.

Wellington’s windy conditions and spongy bounce will test both sides, and the team that adapts fastest will have the edge. For India, a series win in New Zealand would be a major statement. For the hosts, Tuesday is about survival — lose, and the series is gone.
