Gunfire hit and damaged several tents at a displacement site in Gaza’s northern Rafah region on Tuesday, reportedly causing injuries and forcing a humanitarian team to leave the area, the United Nations aid coordination office has said.

The non-governmental organisation had been working on flood control ahead of the rainy season, according to OCHA, in an update published on Wednesday. On the same day, small arms fire was reported near a United Nations-contracted facility in Deir al Balah and close to a United Nations-organised convoy in Rafah. No injuries to United Nations staff or damage were reported in those incidents.

The incidents came amid continued reports of strikes hitting populated areas and causing civilian casualties across the Gaza Strip, according to OCHA. In the West Bank, the olive harvest continues to be disrupted by Israeli settler violence and restrictions on Palestinians’ access to their groves.

Winter is coming

Aid workers warn that displaced families in Gaza face a dangerous winter. Tents damaged by gunfire or storms offer little protection against rain and cold, and flood control work is essential to prevent displacement sites from becoming uninhabitable.

The Times of Middle East reported that a Gaza humanitarian worker had lost her father and brother to an Israeli strike and was now unable to reach their graves because a military Yellow Line had expanded. Aid groups and United Nations agencies say attacks, hospital closures and displacement continue a year after the 2025 ceasefire.

A fragile ceasefire

The ceasefire agreement took effect on October 10, 2025, but violations have been reported regularly. According to figures cited by Anadolu Agency from Gaza’s Health Ministry, 1,602 Palestinians had been killed and 5,794 wounded in reported ceasefire violations by November 5.

The United Nations has called for unimpeded access for aid workers and for the protection of civilians. With winter storms approaching, the need for shelter, clean water and medical care is becoming more urgent by the day. Gunfire has also hit tents at displacement sites elsewhere in Gaza.
