The Buffalo Bills overwhelmed the Baltimore Ravens 36-10 on Sunday in Orchard Park, a win headlined by Josh Allen setting a franchise record and overshadowed by injuries to Baltimore’s quarterbacks.
The Buffalo Bills’ victory moved them to 6-1 and a third straight win. Allen completed 21 of 34 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns, ran for another score, and, according to Field Level Media, set the franchise record for career touchdown passes.
Ravens lose Jackson early
Baltimore’s afternoon unravelled almost immediately. Lamar Jackson was hit in the hand by Bills edge rusher Greg Rousseau on his first pass attempt and left the game pointing to his right thumb. Backup Tyler Huntley then suffered a toe injury early in the second quarter and was also forced out.
Baltimore turned to undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano, who had never taken an NFL snap, and the Ravens became, as one report noted, the first team since 2017 to have three different quarterbacks throw a pass in the first half of a game.
Buffalo takes full advantage
Buffalo did not waste the opportunity. Allen threw touchdowns to DJ Moore and Dalton Kincaid, James Cook ran for another, and Buffalo held Baltimore to 144 total yards. Derrick Henry scored the Ravens’ only touchdown.
The Ravens fell to 4-4 and a third straight defeat. The scoreline alone would have been worrying; the quarterback injuries make it a far bigger concern, with reports after the game focusing on Jackson’s thumb and his availability going forward.
What comes next
For Buffalo, this was a statement win: a 26-point margin over a fellow AFC contender, a franchise record for its quarterback, and a third straight victory. The Bills look like a team building toward January.
For Baltimore, the priority is health. A season can survive a bad Sunday. It cannot survive a prolonged absence at
quarterback, and the Ravens will hope the news on Jackson is better than Sunday suggested.
