Chris Rock has publicly acknowledged his failings in his past marriage, including becoming overly preoccupied with adult films and being unfaithful to his wife. Nearly ten years after the divorce, the comedian reflected on his past behaviour in a feature interview for GQ’s 2026 Men of the Year issue.
Rock, 61, told GQ: “I wasn’t a good husband. I watched too much porn,” adding, “I don’t watch porn anymore. I stopped five or six years ago.” The candour is typical of Rock, who has built a career on turning uncomfortable truths into comedy, but the interview struck a more reflective note than his stand-up.
A marriage that ended in 2016
Rock married Malaak Compton-Rock in 1996 and the couple had two daughters, but announced their separation in 2014 and divorced in 2016. In the GQ interview, he spoke about the psychological problems he experienced at the time and his diagnosis of a learning disorder, framing his behaviour as part of a broader pattern he has since worked to understand.
According to US entertainment outlets including TMZ, Rock discussed his marriage at length in the feature, acknowledging his shortcomings as a husband without blaming anyone else for the split.
Why he is talking now
Rock’s reflections come as he continues to be one of comedy’s most watched figures, with new material and public appearances keeping him in the headlines. His willingness to discuss addiction and infidelity openly has drawn praise from fans, who say his honesty is rare among male celebrities discussing failed marriages.
The interview also touched on his life now, a decade on from the divorce, and his relationship with his daughters. For Rock, the message appears to be one of accountability: he was not the husband he should have been, he knows it, and he has changed since.
