No. 3 Georgia beat No. 17 Florida 27-8 on Saturday, dominating its SEC rival in a rivalry game that was effectively decided by half-time.

The Georgia Bulldogs’ win was built on defence and turnovers. Georgia grabbed two early interceptions, forced Florida to switch quarterbacks, and built a 24-0 lead that could have been worse, according to NBC Sports’ analysis.
Four turnovers, four sacks
Georgia forced four turnovers, recorded four sacks and 11 tackles for loss, and held Florida to 252 total yards, according to the same analysis. It was a complete defensive performance, the kind that wins championships in the SEC.
Florida’s Aaron Philo came under pressure from the start, and the Gators never recovered. Georgia’s defence did not just stop Florida; it dictated the game, forcing mistakes and turning them into points.
Georgia’s playoff position strengthens
Georgia improved to 7-1 and moved up to No. 2 in the new AP Top 25, according to poll reporting. The Bulldogs’ next test is a trip to Ole Miss, a game that, as NBC Sports noted, likely shapes the SEC Championship race and gives the winner an inside track to a top-four playoff seed.
For Florida, the defeat dropped the Gators in the polls and left them needing a strong finish to salvage their season. Rivalry defeats hurt more than most, and a 19-point margin makes this one particularly painful.
A rivalry reminder
Georgia-Florida is one of college football’s great rivalries, and Saturday was a reminder of why Georgia has been the SEC’s standard-bearer in recent years. Physical, disciplined and ruthless when ahead, the Bulldogs controlled every phase.
Florida will regroup, but Georgia leaves the weekend as a team with a clear path: win the SEC, and the playoff will follow. Saturday’s performance suggested that path is very much open.
