India lead New Zealand 1-0 in their five-match T20 international series ahead of Saturday’s second game at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, according to series records. India won the opening match at the same venue on October 22 by four wickets.

The second T20I, scheduled for October 24, is a chance for India to extend their lead and for New Zealand to level the series. Both teams know Christchurch well after Thursday’s opener, and the conditions should be familiar.

India, though, have suffered an injury setback. Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out of the second T20I because of a low-grade right adductor strain, according to reports, after sustaining the injury during the opening match. His absence could give other batters a chance to enter the playing eleven.

Kishan Absence Opens Door For Others

Kishan’s injury is a blow, but India have depth. The team management will monitor the situation and assess available replacements before finalising the playing combination for the important encounter, according to reports.

New Zealand will see Kishan’s absence as an opportunity. The hosts need to win on Saturday to avoid falling 2-0 behind in a five-match series, and they will target India’s reshuffled batting order early.

Series Schedule Ahead

After Christchurch, the series moves to Wellington on October 27, Auckland on October 30 and Hamilton on November 1. An ODI series follows in November, with Tests to come later in the tour.

For now, Saturday’s game is the focus. India want a 2-0 lead; New Zealand want parity. Hagley Oval should provide another entertaining T20 contest.
