Meghan Markle’s office has been accused of throwing Prince William and Kate Middleton “under the bus” in the controversy surrounding Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle Sr. The Meghan Markle Thomas Markle row has pulled the Prince and Princess of Wales into a family dispute they have tried to stay out of, according to royal commentator Tom Sykes.

Speaking on the 30 October episode of The Royalist, Sykes took aim at Harry and Meghan over The Telegraph’s report about a 2019 letter concerning Thomas Markle Sr. The letter reportedly went through a Kensington Palace office once shared by both couples, and Sykes accused Meghan’s office of briefing the newspaper that William and Catherine had been told about it specifically.

“An Act of Unbelievable Spite”

“For Meghan’s office to now be briefing the Telegraph that William and Catherine were told about it specifically is an act of unbelievable spite in my opinion,” Sykes said, as reported by The Cheat Sheet on 3 November 2026. Harry and Meghan shared their Kensington Palace office with William and Kate until March 2019, when the Sussexes set up their own household.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed receiving the letter in January 2019. According to its statement on 29 October, the letter was written by Thomas Sr.’s former wife, Roslyn Loveless, also known as Roslyn Markle. On 30 October, the police watchdog confirmed an independent investigation into how the Met handled the letter and why officers did not contact authorities abroad.

Separate Allegations

Thomas Sr. also faces separate allegations over child sexual abuse material reportedly found at his former home in Cebu, Philippines. Those allegations are distinct from the letter at the centre of the Telegraph report, and no charges have been reported in connection with them.

The row is the latest in a long series of briefings and counter-briefings between the two royal households. For William and Kate, who have said nothing publicly about the letter, the accusation that they were dragged into the controversy by Meghan’s office is unlikely to improve relations between the brothers — already strained, as the reporting around Harry’s GQ interview this week has shown.
