Miranda Lambert Reflects Candidly on Blake Shelton Divorce

Spread the love

Miranda Lambert has made a rare and candid comment about her divorce from fellow country star Blake Shelton, describing the pain of ending a marriage in the public eye — and the creative rebirth that followed. The singer spoke about the split on the “And The Writer Is…” podcast, in remarks reported on October 28. Lambert and Shelton were married from 2011 until 2015. Both have remarried since: Shelton to Gwen Stefani, and Lambert to Brendan McLoughlin. But Lambert’s reflections showed that the experience still shapes how she thinks about her career and her songwriting.

“I got divorced, and that sucks for anyone”

“I got divorced, and that sucks for anyone, especially in the public eye,” Lambert said. “Especially on tour, especially in the middle of a very public career.” She described returning to Nashville after the divorce in 2015 and gathering her friends — many of them songwriters — around her. “I used what I was living, and my friends went on that journey with me — friends being songwriters. And I think I wrote 75 songs.” It was not the first time Lambert has spoken about the split. In 2022 she told CBS News: “I wasn’t prepared for that. I don’t think anybody is. And it’s not nice sometimes, but I think you got to take it with a grain of salt.” The new remarks, however, were striking for their focus on what came after: not the breakup itself, but the work it produced.

A divorce that became a songbook

For Lambert, one of country music’s most respected songwriters, the period after the divorce became one of the most productive of her life. The 75 songs she says she wrote in that season are a testament to her method: turning lived experience into music, with friends as collaborators and witnesses. A decade on from the split, Lambert’s comments carried no bitterness — just honesty about a hard chapter and pride in what she made from it. For fans, it was a reminder of why her songwriting resonates: she writes what she lives, and she has never been afraid to say so.
