The Seattle Seahawks produced the defensive performance of the NFL season so far, beating the previously unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs 20-3 on Sunday Night Football at Lumen Field on 25 October 2026, according to AP reporting carried by theScore and multiple UK outlets.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the star of the night. According to AP, he caught nine passes for 150 yards and a touchdown, repeatedly beating Kansas City coverage on the deep routes that broke the game open. Quarterback Sam Darnold threw for 257 yards and a touchdown for the Seahawks, who improved to 4-3 and snapped a two-game losing run.

Smith-Njigba breaks the game open

The first half told the story. After Darnold found Smith-Njigba for a 33-yard gain early in the second quarter, Jason Myers kicked a 25-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead. On the next series, Ty Okada intercepted Patrick Mahomes, and Darnold then connected with Smith-Njigba for a 28-yard touchdown to make it 10-0 with 1:44 left in the first half, according to AP.

Seattle’s running game then took control. Emanuel Wilson carried 24 times for 100 yards and a touchdown, including a 21-yard scoring run with 3:47 remaining that sealed the victory. The Seahawks finished with 410 yards of total offence, against just 213 for Kansas City.

Mahomes and Walker shut down

For Kansas City, it was a night to forget. Mahomes threw for only 165 yards with one interception, while former Seahawk Kenneth Walker III, the Super Bowl MVP last season before signing with the Chiefs in the offseason, was held to 36 yards on 14 carries. Walker had entered the night averaging a league-leading 133 yards per game, but Seattle, according to AP, has now not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 36 games, the league’s longest current streak.

Kansas City coach Andy Reid took responsibility afterwards. “Listen, all three phases we struggled, so we’ve got to do better, and that’s my responsibility,” Reid said, according to AP. “So I take full responsibility for this. We’ve got to play better as a team.”

Kelce milestone in defeat

The one bright spot for the Chiefs was a milestone for tight end Travis Kelce. He caught four passes to reach 1,104 career receptions, moving past Marvin Harrison and Cris Carter for fifth in NFL history, according to AP. It was a landmark achieved on a night when almost nothing else went right for the visitors.

The result leaves Kansas City at 5-1 and hands the title of the NFL’s last unbeaten team to Minnesota. For Seattle, a team that had lost two straight, it was a statement win built on defence, physical running and a quarterback who bounced back in style. If the Seahawks defend like this again, few teams in the NFC will want to face them in January.
