Every rescue animal has a story, and deaf rescue dog Milkshake’s story spans 1,400 miles. After being dumped on the street along with a litter of puppies, Milkshake waited three years in a shelter for a home, according to Cuteness reporting on October 17, 2026, based on her family’s TikTok account @make.life.happen.

After settling in with her new family, they decided to search for those puppies by doing a doggy DNA test — and sure enough, they found a match. A daughter named Sage lived 1,400 miles away, so the family decided to make the trek to reunite the two.

A blanket with a familiar scent

At first, the two families connected over the DNA site, with Sage’s pet parents mailing a doggy blanket with her scent on it to Milkshake. Then, eventually, Milkshake’s family made the 1,400-mile journey for a visit, where the two dogs seemed to get along quite well, the report said.

In the TikTok clip, viewers see them excitedly greet each other and play, ending with the statement, “This is only the beginning.” The family vowed they would visit Milkshake’s daughter again soon, and in follow-up posts, they went back, including staying in the area for an extended period.

Still searching for the rest of the litter

Indeed, in follow-up posts, they made the trip at least two more times, including a month-long stay in the summer of 2026, according to the family’s account. Milkshake’s family continues to search for her other long-lost pups, hoping DNA tests will bring more reunions.

For a deaf dog who waited three years for a home, the journey is about more than one visit. It is about a family who refused to let her past stay lost — and a daughter, 1,400 miles away, who turned out to be family after all.
