George and Amal Clooney enjoyed a loved-up date night in New York City on Sunday, 1 November 2026, sharing a rare public kiss as they arrived at a benefit reading of the political comedy Smear. The couple, who co-hosted the Albies gala in London in October, looked picture-perfect as they linked arms outside the Seaview Studio in Manhattan, according to HELLO! and TakeToNews.

A night for a cause

The couple were in New York for a one-night-only reading of Smear, a political comedy penned by Clark Gregg, with the aim of raising money for The States Project and The States Forum. The cast included Adam Scott, Betty Gilpin, Laverne Cox, Glenn Fleshler and Shane Paul McGhie, alongside George, who returned to the theatrical stage for the benefit. The play revolves around a fierce political campaign in North Carolina, addressing themes that mirror the tense legislative battles capable of shifting the nation’s political balance.

Amal’s leggy minidress moment

Amal, 48, stole the spotlight in a cream minidress and thigh-high black suede boots, layered with a statement suede jacket, according to HELLO!. George went monochromatic in head-to-toe navy blue with contrasting pops of black. Photographs showed Amal gently cradling her husband’s head and kissing him tenderly on the lips with her eyes closed — a rare public display of affection from a couple who usually keep their romance private.

Why the timing mattered

The event landed days before the United States midterm elections, where control of Congress hangs in the balance. All proceeds went to the States Project and the States Forum, and the Clooneys’ appearance — kiss and all — gave the benefit exactly the attention its organisers would have wanted.
