A powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Japan’s southern Kyushu region on Tuesday, causing widespread destruction, damaging infrastructure and prompting a major emergency response.
The strong quake toppled buildings, sparked fires and left dozens of people feared trapped inside a partially collapsed shopping mall as rescue teams raced to reach those believed to be buried under debris.
