Little Boy Rescues Stray Dog With Plastic Jar Stuck On Its Head

A little boy has been hailed as a hero in Compton, California, after he helped save a stray dog who had a plastic jar stuck over his head — a container that made it impossible for the dog to eat, drink or even breathe properly.

The rescue happened on Wednesday morning, November 4, and was reported by Pet Rescue Report on November 5, based on the account of Suzette Hall, founder of the California non-profit Logan’s Legacy 29.

A 5 a.m. call for help

A very scared dog had been spotted with the plastic jug around his head and face, and other children had reportedly thought it was a Halloween prank. At 5:00 a.m., the little boy called Hall for help, and rescuers rushed to the scene.

The dog could finally have a chance to eat, drink and breathe without that horrible jar covering his face, once rescuers got the container off. The boy’s compassion stood in sharp contrast to the children who had laughed at the dog’s plight.

A bittersweet ending

Unfortunately, the frightened dog chewed through the slip lead after the jar was removed and ran away. The good news, Hall said, is that the container is off his face, and the dog now has a real chance of surviving on his own.

And to that little boy, rescuers say, he is a hero. He showed compassion when an innocent dog needed it most — and at 5 a.m., when most people would have walked past.

Logan’s Legacy 29, the non-profit founded by Suzette Hall, works across California rescuing dogs in exactly this kind of danger — strays with injuries, dogs abandoned after Halloween, and animals that other rescues cannot reach. The boy’s 5 a.m. call is the kind of moment rescuers live for: a child who saw an animal suffering and did something about it. The dog is still out there, but with the jar off his face he can eat, drink and breathe — and that, Hall says, gives him a real chance.
