Sydney Sweeney’s new take on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has found its Ichabod Crane. Nicholas Galitzine is in final negotiations to play the iconic role in Hollow, the Sony Pictures reimagining that stars Sweeney as Katrina Van Tassel. Galitzine, who has had a busy 2026 starring in Sheep Detectives and as Prince Adam / He-Man in Masters of the Universe, will step into a role previously played by Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s 1999 gothic film Sleepy Hollow. The casting completes the film’s central love triangle, and it is a striking piece of casting: the typically gawky Ichabod will be played by an actor best known this year for playing a barbarian superhero.
Katrina Takes Centre Stage
Hollow reimagines the classic Headless Horseman story from the perspective of Katrina Van Tassel, whom Sweeney is attached to play. According to Deadline, the film will portray Katrina “not as a romantic prize, but as the central figure in a dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle.” The project is described as an erotic thriller, a sharp departure from Burton’s gothic horror.
The film is based on the debut novel of horror filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer, whose book is set to be published in autumn 2027. Beer, who directed Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, will also direct the film and adapt her own novel. Sweeney will executive produce through her newly formed Honey Trap banner, which has a first-look deal with Sony Pictures.
A Packed Slate for Sweeney
Since her star-making role as Cassie on Euphoria, Sweeney has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand and powerful stars — and she shows no signs of slowing down. She is currently filming The Housemaid’s Secret, the sequel to her 2025 hit, which will co-star Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Snow, Paul Anthony Kelly and Stephen Kalyn. She is also set to star in The Custom of the Country, based on the 1913 novel, opposite Leo Woodall and Josh Finan, and in 2027 she will lead the Netflix adaptation of Gundam alongside Noah Centineo.
Sony Pictures has not yet set a release date for Hollow. But with Galitzine now in final negotiations, the film’s triangle is complete — and one of America’s oldest folktales is about to get a very modern retelling.
