Producers of The Housemaid’s Secret are worried that paparazzi swarming the film’s New York and New Jersey sets could spoil the sequel’s biggest twists before audiences ever get to see them. The Sydney Sweeney Housemaid paparazzi problem was reported on 5 November 2026, as filming continues on the follow-up to the 2025 box office hit.
According to Page Six Hollywood, producers have raised concerns about the sheer volume of photographers on site. “They are filming in New York and New Jersey with Sydney and Kirsten Dunst. There’s so much paparazzi on site that every day [the shoot] is literally trying to avoid spoilers from the paparazzi,” one source told the outlet.
Set Photos Already Circulating
Recent paparazzi pictures have already shown Sweeney wearing a plunging floral dress, and others revealed a kiss between the 29-year-old actress and her co-star Stephen Kalyn. The latest set photos show Sweeney with Kalyn, the Off Campus star, hand in hand while filming scenes at Hunter College in New York, in photos credited to BACKGRID and shared by Page Six on 3 November.
Those moments come from the story, not a real-life romance. Kalyn plays Brock, a lawyer who starts dating Millie as she tries to settle into a normal life after years of rescuing women from abusive husbands. According to PinkNews, Brock knows nothing about Millie’s criminal past, which sets the stage for tension once her secrets start to surface.
A Sequel With a Lot to Protect
Sweeney reprises her role as Wilhelmina “Millie” Calloway, an ex-convict who finds work as a live-in housekeeper. In the sequel, based on Freida McFadden’s novel of the same name, Millie takes on a new housekeeping job for a client she is never allowed to see. The film boasts an all-star cast, with Kirsten Dunst, Paul Anthony Kelly, Brittany Snow and Stephen Kalyn joining Sweeney and returning star Michele Morrone.
The production spent weeks in New Jersey before moving into Manhattan, filming on Garden Street in Hoboken in mid-October, where Sweeney shot scenes with Morrone. Lionsgate has set The Housemaid’s Secret for theatres on 17 December 2027, giving the sequel the same holiday window that helped make the original a hit. The producers’ challenge now is keeping its secrets until then.
